There is a story by Heinlein where the guy uses sex change and time travel to have sex with himself so he becomes his own mother and father.

Wouldn't that lead to a paradox, or a pair-of-doxes?

I've only read two Heinlein stories; Starship Troopers, and some story about the end of the world that includes a cop who gives this one chick hell for stripping nude in public and a transvestite that (hilariously) gives the cop hell for giving the chick hell. From just these two stories I got the impression you can never know what to expect from a Heinlein story which is probably why so many scifi fans talk about him so much.

This is the book with Henlein's version on how the world ends if you're interested...

https://www.amazon.com/End-World-Ace-S-183/dp/B000CPSTVU

The sole reviewer of this says (incorrectly) that the Heinlein story is not very good when is was probably the best in the compilation. The reviewer totally missed the reason why the world ends, he thinks it was because everyone was becoming 'silly' when in fact everyone was becoming silly because they could subconsiously sense that everything was randomly coming together to bring about a catastrophic change. It might seem far-fetched and flaky as far as people's reactions/senses are concerned and I don't even know if chaos theory was a thing when he wrote it but we do know now that order can mathematically morph into chaos and then back into order again. I love it when these old-time scifi writers get things kind of sort of right as far as science is concerned.
And i didn't give too much away with writing this either, the story has lots of action-packed coolness to it if you ever get a chance to read it!

Yeah, Heinlein stories can differ widely in content and tone from each other, which I think is good. Unless some other popular authors who repeat the same stereotypes again and again (cough Stephen King cough)

I loved Starship Troopers, though it becomes a little preachy some times. But one of his most popular novels Stranger on Strange Land I could not even finish, I could not get past all the free love hippie bullshit. My favorite Heinlein novel was Citizen of the Galaxy.

I too loved Starship Troopers but yeah the middle third of the book is extremely preachy. But even that part held my interest me being Canadian and all, I really dug how Canada had such a hardcore warlike reputation in the post-war era. Camp Currie was clearly named after Sir Arthur Currie the WW1 strategist and Spooky Smith was undoubtedly named after Smokey Smith the WW2 war-hero who was a household name back then. I'm guessing Heinlein didn't want to use his actual nickname because he was still alive then and didn't want to put someone's name in the story for whatever reason. I think I was in Taiwan when Smoky Smith died, I think they closed down a bridge or something in Vancouver for his funeral procession. It was a big deal.
But anyhow, I was warned about the preachy part and was told that some scifi fans considered him very conservative and almost fascist because of his authoritarian worldview, that's why I was surprised when I read The Year Of The Jackpot. I was left with the impression that he's way more liberally minded than many people thought, but still okay with using violence to win the day. And now you mention that one of his stories had so much hippyness in it you couldn't even finish it. The more I hear about his stuff the more I want to read it just to find out more about what exactly made him tick. He must have been a very interesting person to get drunk with!
Tha_Pig @ Tuesday, July 25th 2017, 1:38 AM

I'm pretty sure the reasons why so many people see fascism in Starship Troopers is the movie adaptation which totally disfigures the concept of the novel into that direction. The director admitted he didn't even read the book. The actual system described in the novel is based on personal responsibility, which is the opposite of fascist. So they used violence to get things done, yeah... what would you do if your species was about to be exterminated by giant insects? Harsh language? Heinlein was definitely anti-authoritarian. Another interesting thing about Stranger in Strange Land is how it parodies religion. I would say his view was more Libertarian than anything else.
Brentos @ Wednesday, August 16th 2017, 2:27 AM

Good point about personal responsibility being opposite of fascism, I bet if the term Libertarian was in use back then it would have been easier to put a label on his views/writing.

I am here to interrupt your comic! I am unable to upload from the app itself, but thankfully the upload function works just fine. This is the only living place I have found that allows uploading by default (owners on other sites are awol). I am a bit sad the next generation seems to have forgotten about oekaki boards, but stand-alone art programs are so accessible now. I used to love these drawing communities. I still enjoy Chibipaint. *2am ramble*

I hope you get it working so you can draw here, have you tried the link just above this? Yeah, I've noticed that even if you use old versions of Java or set up a domain exception, Firefox won't submit images anymore. I think Java support in all browsers is dead at this point.

That's right, 66X is the only code he's gotta worry about. Tyrannosaurus Sex is filling in for the Smoke Monster in this strip. For some reason I wanted the code that came up here to be close to 66X so yeah it's random.

66X actually does mean something by the way, if anyone does figure it out don't say it here, you can private message me if you think you know what it means. I want it to be a bit of a big deal in the story when it is revealed. Frree aht to anyone who figures it out!!!!!!!!!!!! :gamer:
