This is really nice, I like how the theme of angularity is present in all the bodily elements, also the repetition of the tapered form. A striking piece that makes good use of the oekaki patterns!

I wanted to try to draw something with only 36 'actions'. i did this in 33. trying to limit myself... couldn't get the last 6t steps quite right (as of now).

just something to play with.

Well that's the secret, then! If we keep our pictures to 33 steps, the animations will work. ... ... Great.

About your picture, I like this method, it's a good way to practice economy of line! Doing more with less is a valuable skill.

I think the oekaki actually let me get away with making a picture! She reminds me of Rebecca Cunningham somewhat.

Ooof, I guess animations just don't work anymore? I got the same problem on this one I had on Pinderhooks' mouse girl, it goes to about 20 something then just stops.

though i couldn't access the 'i wanna draw something' portion of this site.. so i had to reinstall java, AGAIN.

and by the time i did that, i lost all inspiration.
hopefully i'll get it back again.

Sydney @ Monday, October 7th 2013, 3:28 PM

I read your journal on FA the other day Wac and I'm also quite concerned about the future of oekaki. Have you found any alternative applets yet?
Waccoon @ Tuesday, October 8th 2013, 5:13 AM
avatar
There are some HTML5 paint programs that can be used, but they just aren't what I want. If worse comes to worse, there will be some kind of replacement for sure, it just may not be a very good one. Tablet pressure sensitivity will probably be lost, too. It is possible to add support specifically for Wacom tablets, but it takes some work, and I'm not sure how to code in Javascript so doing it myself will be a pain.

As for Wacintaki, changing the code to accept multipart data from an HTML5 app is a piece of cake. It's just the applets that are a problem, not the oekaki itself.

sorry if i started an actual 'issue'.. i was just having a bad night. I wish people would just release software that works, and leave it alone, offering updates as 'optional' instead of 'hey get this, it may f' up your computer but.. meh.. like we care, really... conform or don't use it, BITCH!' (i watched breaking bad.. i can use 'bitch' whenever i want now)

I didn't mean any hostility or complaining towards here at all, btw. though i did get a bit ill and disappointed from losing touch with something i wanted to do.

but that's more on me, than some company.
Waccoon @ Wednesday, October 9th 2013, 2:22 AM

Coincidence, I assure you. Recently, Oracle announced that they are going to change the security policy in Java so unsigned applets (namely the oekaki applets) will no longer be allowed to run. Obviously, I'm really concerned about this, and am stepping up my search for a decent HTML5-based paint program. They are hard to come by, and most of them either suck or are proprietary.

So, yeah, it is an "issue", but it's been a long time coming.
