Awesome pic! You're making me wish for a keyboard with an 'awesome pic' key. And I just have to ask, did you ever read those old CARtoons magazines from like twenty years ago? They were really cool.
Dm @ Thursday, February 23rd 2006, 5:42 PM
avatar
As a matter of fact I did, though it was Dave Deal's style that inspired me to draw this. I only wished they brough out another magazine similar to Car-Toons. Especially in this day and age where the custom car craze and performance is far better than it ever was in the 80s.
Brentos @ Friday, February 24th 2006, 7:51 AM
avatar
The 80s were the true golden age of comics. I watched your animation and am wondering, why did you partially colour this and then make the rest of the 0-layer purple? I've seen other people do that too but I can't see the reason for it. Also, did you ink this using the pen tool at 0 pixels and then go back to the 0-layer and start colouring while having it set on 'normal'?

*googles Dave Deal*
Dm @ Friday, February 24th 2006, 10:31 PM
avatar
Well without getting to complex, the lineart (drawn with px 1 and 0) was done in a seperate layer than the coloring. The coloring layer was done in a seperate layer than the purple background (layer-0). I done that to make manipulating the colored background easier - especially since I put a blur effect on it.

@ DM: Well as a gauge for what I like, I think the E Type Jag is the best looking thing ever made in the world. It's fucking ART! I believe ever since the original Ford Mustang the US car industry has produced nothing but horror. Well there are a few exceptions and nothing comperes to the pure awfulness of Pacific Rimmers, but I have no idea why the US car market loves the whole "ugly brick" design so much.
Dm @ Monday, January 17th 2005, 1:45 PM

Well I can't the say that I agree wth your beliefs (I always liked the look of the mid to late 80s fox-bodied Mustangs, especially the insanely fast one my brother had), but I think the reason for the current trend of the 'ugly brick' design is to try and make cars that look distinctly 'American' rather than rely on immitating the styles of its foriegn competitors.

Ah, so wonderful. I love your cartoons.

One thing I would suggest. Cleaning up your lines would make a world of a difference for your stuff. It's so excellent even with the sloppy lineart, if you fixed it up it'd be even better!

I tried fixing the problem you just mentioned (mostly on Sid). You'll have to excuse my sloppiness. I tend not to be as critical on regular drawings as I am with oekaki pixel art. :P
Commissar @ Wednesday, June 23rd 2004, 12:39 AM
VAARY nice.
To be honest, I like your lineart, cause your using a really thin line and making some great work with it. You really achieved some nice detail.

I see no sloppy lineart. Only style and hawtness.

Wow, this is very nice. The pose is very good and the expressions are spot on, but what I really find interesting is that each side has a different style - while the left side is softer, livelier and more subdued, the right side is far edgier, far more brutal and deadly. It makes for a very interesting contrast, one I've seen very few artists do. Great work!

Wow. You are a talent master. Both are just incredible. The beach scene, the shading, the change in shading.. the fire.. Wow, man, wow. O_O

The more I look at this, the more amazed I am by it. This is a seriously masterful example of cartooning. Funny, well drawn, beautifully colored, great concept . . . . I tip my hat to thee, sirrah!
