Compy problems kept me away from this WACky place until now. Since reading the next installment revealed the answer, there's no point in playing. Besides, Brentos didn't promise any "aht" for getting it. BTW: where's the pic for whoever got the "Planet Clair" riddle right?

I was wondering where you were at. Mascot won the riddle but hasn't replied as to what he wants for the Free Aht. I think he only pops by like every five years or so...

Trying out my new Wacom Intuos tablet and the driver seems to override Windows Ink quite nicely. In fact I really like it! It draws way better than my old Wacom Bamboo. The only problem is it doesn't seem to be compatible with Shi painter, when I go to draw with Shi it just kind of scrolls the page around leaving double images of all the tool buttons. That's a drag because I've really gotten used to the simplicity of Shi, but oh well I guess I'll have to learn this Chicken Paint, it's working really good I say I must say.

Looking great, and I am REALLY glad you got your tablet situation worked out! I think you'll find Chicken Paint is pretty darned friendly, too, I didn't find it more complicated than Shi for the basics, it just had more convenience options. So burn... Burn the flames... Higher and higher.

I think I've jumped through all the hoops to use Shi Painter on my new computer but holy crap my old Waccom Bamboo drawing tablet does not want to cooperate with where I want the lines to go, they're all over the place. Plus when I move the pen back into the drawing box I have to re-orientate the cursor to where the pen is on the tablet, very annoying. The Waccom site says I don't need to install a driver (which is true, I just plugged it in and started using it) but wow this will not do, my aht is bad enough already. It worked great on my old mac so I'm guessing it's true, Macs are better for doing art but I hate macs now ( I hate this computer too if it matters. Fuck!).
I'm thinking of just buying a new tablet, any suggestions on what's a good one to draw with you Deep Thinkers?
Coon @ Saturday, July 21st 2018, 6:31 AM

That sounds super bizarre! I know you probably already did this, but did you make sure to turn off Windows Ink and all writing-input functions? It sounds like Windows (I assume!) is trying to interpret your strokes as handwriting. I'd go ahead and install the latest drivers if I were you, because while the computer will recognize the tablet as a Human Interface Device, it won't know what it is precisely and will try to use it like a mouse.

If you do end up buying a new tablet, I'm devoted to Wacom Intuos (or what is now called Intuos Pro I guess? Intuos used to be the top of the line but I think they started calling everything Intuos) and am on my third one and have always loved the results they give. But the problem you're having really doesn't sound like it's hardware related, it sounds like some software is messing with your strokes.

That first thing you said is probably it, I read something about Windows Ink and didn't even really know what it was. I haven't used windows for like ten years so I'm way out of the loop with their computers still. Thanks Coon!

Wacom tablets have always been a problem, partly because MS wouldn't make a proper tablet driver standard, and Wacom refuses to support any standards (since they have so much market share). I'm currently using a Wacom driver from 2012, since anything newer has way too many problems.

Under Win7, you have to disable the Tablet PC Input service, and I believe under Win10 they either renamed it or supplanted it with Windows Ink Workspace, but disabling that isn't very straightforward since it's not a service (look up a tutorial). Once you do that, the Wacom driver should work better.

I can see why so few people want to draw on oekaki boards these days. I found a tutorial to disable ink but got second thoughts after considering I couldn't install a driver for my tablet anyhow, I even dug up the old CD that came with it(Bamboo Fun) but that wouldn't install either. I think I'll open up Firefox and try messing around with Chicken for a while.

Right now I'm thinking of just going out and buying a new drawing tablet, you guys got any recommendations for one that works good with Windows 10? All my whining aside, thanks for the tech advice you Deep Thinkers!
Coon @ Saturday, July 28th 2018, 2:01 PM

I wish I could help, but I'm hanging onto Windows 7 with my blunt little claws as long as I possibly can, and I'm hoping by the time support runs out for it I'll be able to switch to Linux. I am sooooo done with playing Microsoft's game. I'm pretty sure as long as you get a tablet that's marked as compatible with 10 you should be fine, just make sure to read plenty of reviews before buying!

I'm not sure if it's even something you'd want to consider, but I've heard good things about the Surface Pro as a drawing tool since it has (I think) Wacom technology built right in, so you can draw right on the screen. However, that's only what I have heard, I've never used one! Whatever the case I hope you can get your drawing situation straightened out soon and it actually makes me angry that something as basic as tablet hardware isn't supported properly by Windows 10. With all the bloat these operating systems get shoved into them you'd think just keeping a working driver option available would be small potatoes.

That WAS you wasn't it? I KNOW it was you! Zero G Zero is here purely for comedy relief and the same with Silly Lady whenever someone reminds her she's silly.
