This is what comes to me when I see Di-Hunt's icon. Blenderman won't appear in the comic for quite some time and I still don't know what I'm going to do with Irrelevant. Same with Coon. Oh yeah, Rayebs is supposed to be handcuffed to a jet engine or something. Remember Rayebs?

I heard the other day in the news that some foreign airlines allow passengers to cook their own food in flight. For that purpose they carry portable stoves. And we Americans aren't allowed to kill our own cow and slice it into stakes. It's so unfair.

I wonder if they'd let me use a Coleman stove to fry up some back bacon on the flight. It must be for the first class passengers. If you're rich you could go to a hunting lodge and shoot pheasants or whatever and have the chef cook them up for you. But then again if you're rich you can ride around in a car drinking alcohol while not wearing seat belts. (limousines)

As soon as I saw the character I went "HEY! That's Di-Hunt!" So you did good. Also you guys with your talk of cooking food in-flight makes me imagine this rickety plane flying along with smoke pouring out of every seam leaving a trail. Talk about a smoking section, sheesh!

After looking at some pics on the internet I think this is a pretty good tanuki tail, in The Dangerous Kitchen pic I drew Sakana with a pointy tail but I think I'll stick with this one. Also I read recently that the Canadian spelling of whisky is whisky without the 'E'. I've been spelling it American style the whole time thinking it was the Americans that spelled it without the 'E'. As a rule of thumb for any potential English teachers out there any country that has an "E' in it's name spells it as 'whiskey'. Ireland makes Irish whiskey etc. Okay that's enough deep thinking for today.

Here's the reason Sakana's tail was not drawn properly after all this time. Also the mystery of the migrating ears. The different patterns on his tail happening like this is really Sakana's idea when he messaged me and I was like oh yeah, I should do that! Also: free art to whoever can say where the pattern in the fifth panel comes from, as in which (not famous) character wears this pattern.

Not that I like the look but, I busted a gut laughing at panel 10. Panel 5 is from a "not famous character"? I thought you were just doing my suggestion of "Ludicrous Plaid."
Brentos @ Friday, July 5th 2013, 9:57 PM

It is from your suggestion, it's just that when I thought of ludicrous plaid it was this particular pattern I thought of...

Also, thanks for posting the squid pic to your FA account! I loved that when I saw that. :) It was a cool concept, Sakana.

... If it's not one thing it's another. Here's Sakana's artwork, I finally drew a proper tanuki tail I think. Oh Yeah to Sakana for being mighty fine at translating Latin I say I must say... Oh Yeah!

I was thinking of this the whole time I drew this...

Haw! Tan Can Cook! Awesome art, Brentos! And, in colour too! From the low POV angle with the squid's distressed expression contrasting with my ganbatte grit, through the cartoony action of things flailing and flying about. LOVE the sub-orbital lemon at top! I shudder to think where its unseen 8th tentacle is: hope already "on the cutting room floor" in panel 2. And the details: from shoji screens & door, tatami mats, geta serving-boards down to his tabi socks! Even the animation works! And hey look, despite the corrected tanuki tail, I'm a unicorn now! THANK YOU!

Oh, and because Calbeck favourited this pic on my my FA page -- http://www.teampwnicorn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Unicorn-Pretend-Time.jpg

B4rts b4rt! But as for the tail, most cartoon versions I've seen have the bands. I could change it to be more proper, in fact I think I will now that I think about it. There's a lot to know about tanuki folklore (seriously, there's a whole shit load of stuff about them!). It is true that tanukis are traditionally believed to be the spiritual embodiment of household items that have been in a home for one hundred years is it not? Holy crap I hope that's right because I've already written that into the story long ago.
Coon @ Tuesday, June 25th 2013, 1:49 AM

I'm always bad at commenting on ongoing projects, but I wanted to say I have read the entire Lust strip and think it's great! Not only that but pretty monumental as an effort, too. You've put a lot of steady time and thought and line-miles into it!

I admit, a lot of it goes right over my head. I didn't even realize it was based on Lost, since I had never seen Lost. I thought it might be based loosely on Troma's War of all things. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfDzF2oN7Tc

These segments with Satbast, Sakana, B4rt and the old man are my favorites!
Brentos @ Tuesday, June 25th 2013, 5:25 AM
avatar
Oh man, that seriously means a lot to me, Coon. I really like these segments too but have been worried because the ratio of comedy-to-exposition is pretty bad in them. They're important though because what happens in them has a lot to do with the future story line so I keep doing them with all the heavy dialogue.

I'm about to click on your link right now and have no idea what to expect now... (I've never heard of Troma's War, sounds Greek or something...)
Coon @ Wednesday, June 26th 2013, 5:27 AM
avatar
Oh, no, I think misleading someone into thinking a Troma movie is anything as profound as Greek history... Even unintentionally... Is grounds for instant damnation! I should have added a note like "Warning, this link leads to a cheeseball exploitation movie. You probably don't wanna click it."

Troma's War is just an 80's film that had a lot of eerie similarities to Lost, so since I'd seen it but never seen Lost, it led to a surreal misunderstanding on my part.

Oh well! I'm goin' to Hell for that I am sure.
Brentos @ Wednesday, June 26th 2013, 9:35 PM
avatar
I watched about 30 minutes of it before getting too tired. I'm amazed at the obvious similarities and how many there are. I'd have to say ol' what's his name was totally inspired by this. And it appears that this Troma productions is the same people who made Toxic Avenger one of the classic B movies.

Thanks for the link, I'm one more step closer to enlightenment!
