This started out as a bunch of random sketches while further developing Talia (pronounced “Tal-yah”). My main concern was the design of her tiara, which needed a revision to fit the relatively small forehead of Mobian characters. I'm not quite used to this style yet, but I'm getting better at the proportions.

As usual, I got carried away and decided to ink and color everything. If I had known I'd do that, I would have planned the composition a bit better to accommodate the text, rather than just throwing it all together. However, it's easier to spot design and proportion mistakes after inking and coloring, and I do have a few adjustments to make. Once I'm comfortable with her design, I'll make a proper model sheet later.

Next up, some more design studies of Giraud, and then I'll start putting more of the story together and see where that goes. 8)

No weenies avowed!

Sorry to all you haters, but I think everybody but SEGA has accepted it at this point. 8)

Heh. I think I'm getting the hang of Sonic style. Since my last Whisper and Tangle picture (in my own anthro style) turned out so terrible, I figure I'd put some extra work into this one.

I love seeing Sonic characters drawn in non-Sonic styles, so I figure I'd give it a shot using my Backing Out style. Whisper turned out okay, but Tangle... ugh. I really should have used separated eyes instead of my traditional joined eyes. Whatever.

I'm honestly a bit embarrassed to post this, but I redrew Tangle three times and I'm so done with it. Now I need to get some practice with “normal” Sonic style if I want to start my minicomic sometime this century. 8)

I think the sketch turned out pretty nicely all things considered, so I posted it, too.

Well, almost. Give them time. They're still working on it.

This was really hard to ink... mainly because I was giggling like an idiot the whole time.

Poor Tangle! When I saw this panel from the Sonic the Hedgehog comic book, I couldn't help but think Whisper really needs to check the safety on her whispon before pointing it at a friendly. Oops.

I plan on drawing more of these two, because I just love them so much.

Welcome to puberty, kid.

It's hard to believe Miles is now officially a teenager. Before he was born, Wac and Tawny were discussing having children, and they were concerned about whether their kids would inherit Wac's lycanthrophy and how severe it could be. Just as a precaution, they decided that when they were ready to start a family, they would do so only when Wac was in his normal form. Alas, they found out the hard way that Wac is only fertile — and exceptionally so — when he has transformed. Despite Tawny still being on birth control, Miles was conceived accidentally, and his parents panicked for months, worried about how their first child would behave once he was born.

To their relief, Miles was born physically normal, and for years appeared to be developing with no psychological problems. He does have abnormal vocal chords, rendering him unable to speak and only able to whisper, but the family doctor believes this condition is unrelated to lycanthropy. For his entire life, Miles has never had a transformation episode, and he was anxiously optimistic that he wouldn't have to endure the same inconvenience as his father.

Well, so much for optimism. Now it's time for “the talk”, and the long process of learning how to control episodes and how to hide his condition from the general public. Thankfully, it's a myth that were people are bloodthirsty killing machines. Mostly it just makes you a bit dumb and in the mood for snacks. Miles is very mild-mannered and not prone to anger or malice — or binge eating — so he should adapt without too much trouble.

Of course, now Wac and Tawny need to worry about their daughter, Melissa. She's a total firecracker, so when she comes of age and feels the call of the wild, she'll need all the help she can get!

So that's how she lost her cheek fur!

I don't read the comics, so I'm not 100% sure what's up with that redesign and all, or even if Sally is as much of a b*tch as people say she is. So, don't blame me if you don't get a chuckle out of this.

In case it isn't obvious, it's been a long time since I've drawn the Sonic style.

Out of nowhere, M.T. Fox (aka Paul Prower), drew me two bits of fan art for my Backing Out comic strip. So I drew him this! Hope you like it, Paul. (One of his pics is on the BO guest art page, here's the other one). Too bad I'm too young to remember “The Raccoons”, an 80's TV show, but I still like the pic.

BTW, Fiona is a robot programmed by Dr. Robotnick to lure Tails into a trap, just in case you were wondering about the metalic eyes. She was featured in the Archie Sonic Comic book issue #28 as Tails' first love.

I prefer Manga Tails to “Archie Comics” Tails. In fact, I feel the only Mobian character who gets drawn more inconsistently than Tails is Antoine!

I bought “Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie” on DVD. It was pretty disappointing overall, and absolutely nothing like the SATAM shows (Saturday AM cartoon series), and a lot like Sonic Adventure. As for Tails, his voice is nasal and dorky in the movie, but at least he has a much bigger role than in the SATAM series, and he's drawn correctly, too! If you love Tails, pick up the DVD for cheap.

Ah, Deluxe Paint! Just for fun, I thought I'd throw in my typical drawing environment for 1990-1994. Yes, things did have to be done one pixel at a time with a maximum of 32 colors on the Amiga 1000. The A1200 could go to 256 colors, which barely edged out the PC VGA standard (which can only display 256 colors in low res). How much of my life did I waste doing dithering by hand?

Now that's when computer illustration was actually fun. Today it's just work. :)
