I read the IPB integration board and also looked at the phpbb integration thing, but since I don't exactly know php, I just wanted to know where I should start with this (SMF integration with Wacintaki) since I think phpbb and SMF (the forum software I'm using) are pretty different.
I'm currently using SMF (Simple Machine Forum -- http://simplemachines.org) for my website forum, which can be viewed at http://night-star.net/forum . I want to integrate the membership with my oekaki board, which is version 1.2.5 and can be viewed at http://night-star.net/oekaki . If there is no way to preserve the files already on the oekaki board and I will need a fresh install (of the latest version), I'm fine with that. Actually, I'm thinking about deleting my current oekaki board and just working with a fresh install for integration first. Anyway, is there any good way to go about integrating the forum and the oekaki board?
Oh yes, I do not know if this would affect anything, but my forum and gallery (http://night-star.net/gallery) are currently bridged together. I would like it to remain that way, even when I bridge my forum and oekaki board.

Well, I will be learning php over the summer, and I'm not really going to do anything until over the summer. I would just like to get a little direction to where I should start. But, why would it be a great deal of modification to both? Can't I just modify the membership for the oekaki to take membership information from the smf table and add a few fields to the smf table so that the oekaki functions correctly?

The short of it is, you would have a copy of the Wacintaki membership profile in your SMF board, and use the SMF autorization script to log people in and manage cookies. People would also have to login with permanent cookies, as Wacintaki has no awareness of sessions, which can cause some issues with forums. You would then have to change many database calls in Wacintaki that fetch data from the membership database and replace them with values fetched from SMF. Then, the applets will have to have their own login procedure and pass the SMF board information back and forth, as the applets are not HTTP compliant, and cookies don't work properly.
It's a real mess. OekakiPoteto had entry points all over the place, and there are still a lot of open ends I haven't closed. I intend to fix a lot of these problems with my new board, so it may be able to integrate with a few popular forums.
The good news is that 1.3 will have a new authorization script for the applets, to solve the cookie import problem. It's just taking me forever to get it all done. I probably shouldn't have bothered at all.
