Older versions of Wacintaki had those files present, and they were just empty placeholders.  Newer versions of Wacintaki create those files automatically, solving a number of installation issues.  If it's been a while since you've installed/updated a Wacintaki board, then you needn't worry.  Just make sure that if you've made changes to an existing hacks file, you copy those changes to the new hacks file before copying it to the server.  At some point I'll have to add the hacks options to the control panel, and then the hacks file will disappear, too.  Oh yeah, updating the hacks file is optional.  You only need to update it to take advantage of new features.

MySQL connection successful, but cannot access database named “http://whitesky.strawberry-soup.net”

Four values are required to access a database.

The first three are used to make a connection to the MySQL server.  Sometimes people get the database host and the database itself confused.  MySQL is the database host, and the database is what you create to hold the oekaki's data tables (sometimes referred to as "schema").  The database host is the server resource, such as "localhost" if the database is on the same computer as the web host, or a URI, such as "sql.server.net", if the database is on a dedicated machine.  The database username and password are used to make the connection.

You must also specify a fourth value, the database name, which is the actual database you want to access.  Since you create this database, it can be any name you like.  Some ISPs only give you one database, so they might choose a name for you, which is usually some variation of your account name.  If your ISP account is "bobsmith", your database could be something like "bobsmith_db001".  Check with your ISP to see what your database resources look like.

The "whitesky" name you have is formatted like a URL.  The installer is not asking for your web site URL, it needs the name of the database.  Every ISP sets up MySQL a bit differently, so if you're not sure about the names and such, take a look at your server's administration panel, or ask your system administrator for help.

When I downloaded the files, all that came in the resource folder was the .hacks and three image files...but I thought there was supposed to be more. I'm just wondering what happened to those files since I've downloaded them multiple times.

Plus, I keep getting errors after using install.php:
ERROR: MySQL connection successful, but cannot access database named “http://whitesky.strawberry-soup.net”
