Yeah, your server probably doesn't like the execute bit disabled, so 755 will work while 756 or 776 will not.  For folders, make sure the last digit is always odd, and you should be OK.  As for files, the execute bit is rarely needed (especially for PHP files), so they should almost always have an even last digit, such as 644 or 664.

Reuploading and resetting the chmod to 755 seemed to make it work fine now. Redid my smilies folder, too, as I had noticed that was a problem.

I appreciate it, and thanks for the fast reply! ~

There's something wrong with the permissions of the animation viewer.  This is a server issue, and might require some trial and error.

Basically, you have to change permissions of the "/shipainter" folder so it is accessible to the public (more than one file in that folder must be downloadable, so the whole folder has to work).  If you can click on this link in a browser, and get a listing of files, then the viewer should work:  http://stereowaste.net/oekaki/shipainter/

Currently, it returns a 404, so either the server is blocking access of all subfolders by default, blocking access to folders that do not have an index file of some sort, or the folder isn't there.  If you're not sure what permissions are on the folder right now, just delete it and re-upload it.

Generally, the execute bit must be set for folders to work properly with web servers, so the 3rd digit should be odd.  That is, 775 or 777.  Using 776 means that the execute bit is disabled for public access, and the server may not like that.  I'd recommend starting with 755 and working your way to to 775, 774, then 777.  Some servers may not work unless 777 is used, because there is a custom security policy in effect that enforces some restrictions even when using 777.  The /shipainter folder doesn't have any code in it, so don't worry about using the least restrictive permissions if needed.

Oh yeah, and check the diagnostics page to see if any folders are locked.  If the /shipainter folder isn't working right, there might be something else wrong, too.  If everything shows up as "OK", then there shouldn't be any problems.  Make sure the "/smilies" and "/avatars" folders are working, too, if you have those features enabled.

Finally was able to get the chmod of my server to work - everything ran smoothly when installing the oekaki, but the animations aren't working between all oekaki programs (Shipainter, Shipainter Pro, etc.). I have looked through many topics concerning this problem - reset the chmod to 776, made sure my ftp is on binary, continuously reupload PCHview.jar, and nothing seems to work. Can I get some help?
