I've wondered what it must be like for someone to wander onto this board and just start reading from like this page or something. They'd be like What the FUCK?!?!

In case you don't know, Wac made a link at the top of the page with all the pages in order. You can read it but you still wouldn't know what's going on! I don't even know what's going on!

i read it outloud, in the voice of some guy who hangs out a pub and carries a hotbed of knowledge in his liquid memories.

coincidentally, someone linked this cartoon http://www.treehugger.com/clean-technology/arguments-against-nuclear-oil-coal-and-wind-pic.html to me this morning, and they reminded me of each other

Nice story and comic style artwork! Just a thing though, during the era of Classical Antiquity, there actually were intricate mechanisms of clockworks, for example the Antikythera mechanism is dated between 150 and 100 BC in Greece.

Anyway, I agree with the story and find it very good! Middle East was not always backwards, it is just that they happen to be governed by many religious fanatics right now. Educate the people and then kill the parasites!!! >:D
Brentos @ Monday, December 26th 2011, 1:10 AM

You're right, the Antikythera Mechanism was made in Greece. I just like screwing with society's norms so I kind of added my own theories into Tex's rant. Admittedly, I have no evidence to link the Antikytheras (It's likely that the Greeks made lots of them and they spread all over civilized Europe...) to a Middle Eastern origin. At least no solid evidence, just my own speculations. The Antikythera used the Egyptian calendar on one of it's dials and from what I've read gears and mechanical theory originated in the Middle East. As a reader of Skeptic Magazine I really do feel like I'm crossing a line there with these speculations because that isn't what a skeptic is meant to do, I'm supposed to provide 'extraordinary evidence' for 'extraordinary claims' and I can't do that in this case.
Plus, one of the editors, Michael Shermer, has compiled a list of things that indicate that a conspiracy theory is wrong. One of the things on the list is the act of 'connecting the dots' of different bits of information to come up with your own chain of events to 'prove' your theory is correct. The problem with doing that is that there's so much information out there that it's easy for someone to cherry pick a bunch of unrelated things and come up with a pattern that people will think is true.
Also my 'information' that mechanical theory originated in the Middle East could easily be wrong. It was a few years ago when I read the particular book that makes me think that and trying to remember back I could have gotten the time-line wrong. So yeah I felt like I was taking a chance with the last few pages of Lust. I'll have to go and do some research before I continue the comic.

In the future expect more long-winded rants from:

Tex Spendible (History...)

Ken N Fotter (Particle Physics...)

Waccoon (Quantum Mechanics...)

Jazz Pirate (Time travel...)

No One In Particular (Perception...)

Chronos XP, or agents thereof, (Religion...)

Pinton (Combat survival...)

Yourself! (History of the Island, Sachi and Shmorky...)

And me, Brentos! (Symbology...)

***IMPORTANT EDIT***

I finally got around to changing the text here. I think it's much better and hopefully more accurate now. As an atheist I'm severely biased by things such as the underground movie Zeitgeist, as you will see in future pages to the comic...

Zeitgeist: I thought that half of it was pretty dumb but got off on the anti-religion part. That part gave me an emotional chubby! But as it turns out Skeptic Magazine did an article about it and much of the 'anti-religion' part of the movie was incorrect and poorly researched. So a disclaimer:

Much of this comic could be absolutely fucking fucked. If you see something that is incorrect let me know in a comment or even a private message. Criticism and input is awesome.
