Coming from British Columbia I've seen this kind of thing many times with different kinds of animals. Usually on islands which from what I know is a natural result of inbreeding. Once up north in a place called the Bulkley Valley I even seen what's known as a kermode bear. It was this exact colour and not pure white like the ones you may have seen on TV etc. This is considered normal since the Bulkley Valley is physically 'isolated' due to some extremely steep mountains and the fact that local native lore speaks often about the 'white' black bears. What isn't normal is the many reports each year of white moose in nearby regions of the province. We think that's probably due to man-made linear formations such as roads etc. Bla bla bla in any case to get such a great photo of a 'rare' raccoon in the daytime is awesome. |
